BACKGROUND
John Henry "Jack" Speer IV was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He and his family moved to Groveland, Florida, when Jack was in the first grade. While attending Groveland High School, Jack excelled at music and sports. His songwriting roots began when he wrote music for a band he started called The Originals.
After graduation, Jack turned down a music scholarship to the University of Miami and accepted a football scholarship to Florida State University.
Today, Jack lives in the Tampa Bay area with his wife, Julie, where they enjoy time with their family. Jack splits his musical time between composing and performances.
MUSICAL INFLUENCES Jack's musical style is a blend of country and adult contemporary sound -- think Porter Waggoner meets Cole Porter. His songs are often tinged with nostalgia with scenes from his childhood growing up in a small Southern town, much like the songs of Country Music legends Kenny Rogers, Barbara Mandrell and Dolly Parton.
Jack said he has been influenced over the years by an eclectic group of artists that include the Beatles, the Beach Boys, The Everly Brothers, Marvin Gaye, Sam (Moore) and Dave (Prater), Rick Nelson, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Gene Pitney, Elvis Presley, The Righteous Brothers, Johnny Rivers, James Taylor and Jackie Wilson.
